Buffalo Center was named after Buffalo Creek and platted in 1892 along with a
railroad in the same year. Ten major fires in town from 1894-1982 caused factories,
business buildings and hotels to burn down. Home to the first consolidated school
west of the Mississippi, which allowed rural schools to send their children to
town for school - in 1896. Former businesses included a railroad depot, meat
market, flour mill, clay tile factory and fiberglass company.
