Fertile

Community Info

Fertile.

Fertile was founded by William Rhodes, a Canadian who came to Iowa and was told of a mill processing wheat into flour in Fertile.

The town's nickname is "Putsy" given by a map maker who saw a town nearby called Fontanelle - though it only existed on the map - it was called Putsy and the name stuck with Fertile.

The Fertile Beautification and Improvement Group is active in Fertile where volunteers put many hours into improving the appearance of the community.
