Community Info

Lake Mills was incorporated in 1869 by C.D. Smith and was built on the shoreline of Rice Lake where a grist and lumber mill were located. Richard Sears, founder of the Sears organization was a depot agent here from 1880-1896 and Governor Terry Branstad practiced law in Lake Mills prior to being elected.
