Leland

Community Info

Leland was incorporated in 1882 and the name was chosen to honor John D. Leland, an attorney who came here from Illinois in 1878 and purchased an abundance of land.

Major historical events included a fire that destroyed two downtown stores in the early 1900s, a bank robbery for $860 in the late 20s. US Highway 69 came through town and moved many businesses off of Main St. onto the highway, forever changing the business district.
