Community Info

Thompson was incorporated in 1894 and named for Jasper Thompson who was the President and General Manager of the Town Lot Company - which sold lots for settlement and development.

Major events included eight fires from 1909 to 1980, destroying the Thompson Creamery, buildings on Main Street, the Egan Hotel and the original Branding Iron building. There was a bank robbery in 1974 by three masked men who stole all the money in the drawers. The robbers escaped and abandoned their car six miles northwest of town and were never caught.
